Porter Construction Completes Troy Park, Phase II This is not your average athletic field!

When you begin peeling back the layers of amenities and facilities that went into this athletic field, this project, built by Porter Construction, shows impressive planning, construction management and construction experience.

Phase II of the Troy Park project was completed in the spring, 2018. It required the development of ~14 acres to include all that was wanted in this $7.8+m multipurpose, artificial athletic field, owed by Howard County in Elkridge, Maryland.

Besides what you can see – stadium lights surrounding a field marked for multiple sports, bleachers, a press box and four pavilion/comfort stations – what you can’t see is the preparation, planning and coordination of multiple trades to prepare for the finished field. Underground utilities and water needed to go to all buildings, storm drains, sanitary with associated SWM facilities and multiple levels of excavation called for constant and precise site management to create the right sequence of activity and to keep the project moving on time and budget.

Once preliminary work was well underway, the construction of buildings needed comfortable and accessible slab on ground construction with steel columns and custom glu-laminated beam roof framing. Exteriors were to display masonry veneers and metal wall panels. Adding to the Troy Park project’s notable presence and public access, the field needed asphalt roads and parking for 506 vehicles. Signage was also to be placed throughout the park, which included a custom entrance sign.

To end up with a finished project of this magnitude requires more than what first appears. Porter Construction worked with initial planners and then broke down the total project into its individual parts. We coordinated timelines for numerous skilled trades from excavators to electricians and masons to finish carpenters, not to mention the laying and marking of the field itself. The final beauty of the project is a testament to Porter’s experience and expertise in efficient construction management.
